Artist Statement

Art is the journey of the soul in 3-D (heart, mind and spirit).  I have been making art all my life. I believe in art as a healing element, I practice it in my role as an Art Therapist. Art  expands and at times it becomes a psychic premonition; a revelation of the soul to itself… It is a vehicle of discovery. Art is my greatest teacher. This is a series I have worked on for 8 years. There are 2 working titles: “Human Potential”  or “The Red Paintings” (I use paper the color of red rock).  The materials, gouache on paper are the same as used by the ancient Vedics 5,000 BC in sacred ritual prayer. My paintings are prayers for the betterment of all human kind, in pursuit of our highest potentials.

I make art from dreams, meditations, and visions.  I look to the landscape, the mindscape, the dreamscape and to the struggle of the human condition as fuel for the artworks. Transformation is a common theme.  I have many ideas from my own introspection, visionary inspirations, symbolism of the world’s mystery schools, the Earth and sacred cycles of the natural world, the phenomena of Cosmic Consciousness, legends and mythologies.  Often the paintings depict the three worlds: human (Earthly), spirit (Heavenly) and the world of the ancestors (Subterranean).

The human world  and its cultures are diverse and these images show that diversity as well as the connections we share.  One of my goals is to preserve the sense of importance and specialness of each culture.  Another goal is the heightening of the senses through symbolism and the sublime showing our connection with all other human beings at the level of the Divine.

The way that you look at each piece may change over time.  Like a mysterious waterfall, the human story is often fluid and changing as well as ancient and repeating. The collective unconscious is written in the folklore, mythology and live tales given to us from our ancestors; yet we make them come alive by living out our own stories in the here and now…

I believe we are constantly creating a new mythology, one of our evolution and transformation, our struggles and joys. Now is the time to remember our true selves and seek out our highest potential to become what we can only imagine.

“Possibility is the secret heart of Time…”
